Iranian Professor Hamid Dabashi, sent a message of support for Mr. Öcalan’s Call for Peace and Democratic Society.
The message reads as follows:
"Dear friends, I was elated to learn of Mr. Öcalan’s historic declaration calling for a democratic and peaceful resolution to the Kurdish question. This to me is the sublime indication of a political maturity rarely seen in the global scene!
The moral premise of this wise political gesture will have a long and enduring impact on the future of the region far beyond the Kurdish-Turkish question.
This to me is the most revolutionary heartier that a wise political leader could have taken in these troubled times."
Hamid Dabashi, one of Edward Said’s close friends, is the Hagop Kevorkian Professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.
As one of the leading dissident voices in the United States, Dabashi frequently delivers lectures and talks around the world. He has written more than twenty books, edited four volumes, and contributed chapters to many others. In addition, he is the author of over one hundred essays, articles, and book reviews on topics ranging from Iranian and Islamic studies to comparative literature, world cinema, and the philosophy of art (trans-aesthetics).
