Italian Sociologist Donatella Della Porta and Lenin Prize–Winning Philosopher Göran Therborn have sent messages of support for the Peace and Democratic Society Process.
In his message, Della Porta stated:
"This is a statement in strong support of a democratic and peaceful resolution to the Kurdish question. During their long experience of struggle against assimilation the Kurdish people have developed new conceptions of collective identification which go beyond the state. As for Palestinian and other oppressed people, the effect of colonialism and the attempts to erase them has produced territorial fragmentation and diasporic experiences that have triggered new conceptions of liberation and new forms of subjectivities. The convergence with global movements on gender rights, environmental causes, racism and social injustice has contributed to a reflection that is fundamental for all oppressed people. Only through a culture of peace and dialogue the conditions can be created to prefigure another possible world. The Kurdish political movement has made significant steps in this direction."
Meanwhile, Philosopher Therborn said the following in their common message:
“Abdullah Öcalan, the Leader of the Kurdish People, has issued a call for peace at a time when warmongering is running rampant across the world. There is no doubt that Öcalan is the Mandela of our time. If it works out, he would a worthy Nobel Peace Prize winner. The Kurdish people feel a rightful pride in having such a leader. I have learned that the committee formed within the Grand National Assembly of Turkey will meet with Öcalan in the coming days. This is a historic moment not only for the Kurds but for the entire world. I fully support Öcalan, who views the democratic and peaceful resolution of the Kurdish Question as part of the international socialist struggle.”
