Statement of solidarity to the Kurdish people and support on the peace process

Socialist History Professor Antonis Liakos shared a message of support for Mr. Öcalan's Call for Peace and Democratic Society:

"In our wider region, which encompasses the Balkans, Asia Minor, and the Middle East, rivers of blood and tears have been flowing for the last two centuries. The ancient cradles of civilization appear as a land of savagery. From a distance, it looks like a clash between the children of Sarah and Hagar:  peoples who lived together for centuries and shared the same cities and villages, were irrigated by the same rivers, and traded in the same bazaars. However, a combination of nation-state creation and colonialism uprooted these populations from their homes, creating ethnic cleansing and genocide. How can we achieve reconciliation so that people can live in peace and recognise each other's dignity and rights? The following three words need to be heard loud and clear: 'mutual respect', 'compromise' and 'coexistence'.  This applies to both Greeks and Turks, and to Turks and Kurds. I therefore support the forces that advocate these three principles in Turkish, Kurdish and Greek."
