Statement by our Central Executive Board:
We condemn the abduction and killing of Sîpan Hiznî, who served within the Haseke Brigade, as well as the intervention at Kobanî Prison that resulted in the deaths of detainees. We are deeply saddened by these tragic losses. We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the people of Rojava, and wish a swift recovery to the injured.
The fact that Sîpan Hiznî was killed at such a sensitive stage of the integration process in Syria is especially concerning. Both this killing and the manner in which the intervention at Kobanî Prison was carried out constitute a clear provocation.
The killing of Sîpan Hiznî and the incidents at Kobanî Prison must be thoroughly investigated. The circumstances surrounding the deaths must be established without delay, and those responsible must be identified, regardless of their position or rank.
We believe that the withdrawal of the security forces deployed from Aleppo to Kobanî would be the most appropriate step to prevent the escalation of the current tensions. The Damascus regime must refrain from any actions that could inflame the situation. The democratic reaction of the people of Rojava should not be met with intervention; an approach that reduces social tensions must be adopted.
At such a fragile juncture in the process, any incident has the potential to become a catalyst for provocation. Preventing the conditions for such provocations to take hold is a shared responsibility of all those with a role in the process.
