Basel'deki İsviçre-Türkiye Araştırmalar Derneğinin 2015'e kadar başkanlığını yapan tarih profesörü Hans-Lukas Kieser, barış sürecine desteğini açıkladı. Kieser'ın açıklamasından satır başları şöyle:
“Türkiye'de yürütülen barış sürecini tam anlamıyla destekliyorum. Bu süreç, yeni bir cesaret, bilgelik ve tüm taraflardan uzlaşma isteği gerektiren, çok ihtiyaç duyulan demokratik bir öğrenme sürecidir.
Bu yeni barış tutumunu, merhum Sırrı Süreyya Önder kadar açık bir şekilde somutlaştıran başka bir siyasetçi yoktur. Onun kaybı derin bir şekilde hissediliyor. Ancak, yas tutmaktan daha önemli olan şey, Türkiye’de yeni bir siyasi kültürün gelişimi için geride bıraktığı cesur ve insani mirastır. Bu kültür, özellikle Türkler ve Kürtler başta olmak üzere, herkesin eski sorunları demokrasi ve insani bir karşılaşma ruhuyla ele alıp çözmesine olanak tanır.
Yeni bir birlikte yaşama anlayışı kronikleşmiş krizlere, kan dökülmesine ve sefalete son verebilir.
Gerçekten de Türkiye ve çevresinde yeni ufuklar açılıyor. Gelecek, ellerini eski ayrılıkların ötesine uzatabilenlere aittir. Gelecek, şiddet ve zor yoluyla siyaset yapmayı ve geçmişin milliyetçi dogmatizmini reddedenlere aittir. Gelecek, demokratik yolları izleme cesaretini gösterenlere aittir. Bu yollar, her bireye ve her etnik gruba ortak yaşam için tanınma ve sorumluluk verir.

Barış ve refah, ancak özgür bir ülkede yeşerir. Yeni sürece dahil olan herkese içtenlikle başarı, gerekli sabır, içgörü ve alçakgönüllülük diliyorum.”

“I fully support the peace process in Turkey. It is a much-needed democratic learning process that requires new courage, wisdom, and a willingness to compromise from all sides.
No single politician embodied this new attitude of peace as clearly as the recently deceased Sırrı Süreyya Önder. He is deeply mourned. But even greater than mourning is the courageous human legacy he has left behind for the development of a new political culture in Turkey: a culture that allows everyone, especially Turks and Kurds, to address and solve old problems in a new spirit of democracy and human encounter.

A new coexistence can put an end to the notorious crises, bloodshed and misery.
Indeed, new horizons are opening up in Turkey and its neighborhood. The future belongs to those who are able to reach out their hands across the old divides. It belongs to those who reject the politics of violence and coercion and the nationalist dogmatism of the past.
It belongs to those who have the courage to follow democratic paths: paths that give each individual and each ethnic group recognition and responsibility for the commonwealth.
Peace and prosperity can flourish in a free country. I sincerely wish all those involved in the new process every success and all the necessary patience, insight and humility.”
